A Look At 7 Email Marketing Services For 2023

Although we’ve had email for over forty years, its popularity only continues to grow.

The first ever email marketing campaign conducted by Digital Equipment Corp’s Marketing Manager, Gary Thuerk was a resounding success and netted well over 13 million dollars in 1978 (about $50 million today).

Email marketing is the most profitable type of marketing available, with a highly impressive return on investment, or ROI.

There are tools and email marketing services that can help you automate workflows, track opens, clicks, and replies, and gain you even more subscribers for your list.

If you are looking to get started with email marketing campaigns, making the right choice from the many options available can prove to be a little overwhelming.

In this article, we are going to look at some of the best email marketing services available in 2023 so that you can easily choose the one that is best for you and your business.

But first, let’s look at why you need email marketing.

Why Use Email Marketing?

Email marketing allows you to connect with your audience in an effective way, as well as to build engaging relationships with them – and ultimately convert them to paying customers.

To ensure the success of your campaigns, it’s important to choose a service provider with unique features that satisfy your business objectives.

If you are wondering whether you really need email marketing – the answer is yes.

If you own a site that doesn’t get traffic, then email marketing will help. It gives you the ability to keep in contact with visitors even after they’ve left your site.

Other Benefits Of Using Email Marketing Include:
Increasing repeat visits

The majority of visitors to your site will leave and never come back.

By building an email list, you ensure that you have a way of keeping in touch with them so you can send them valuable content to their inboxes.

Building a loyal following

Those people who return to your site are more likely to become customers than first-time visitors.

Data from recent studies shows that it takes about four visits to your site, on average, for prospects to start thinking of doing business with your brand.

Increasing sales

This type of marketing outperforms both social media and organic search traffic. If you want to make sales, then you definitely need email marketing.

Choosing The Best Service For Email Marketing

Each email marketing service has its own unique set of features, and when selecting a service to use, you need to ensure that you choose one that fits the needs of your business.

Don’t just go for the most popular service (or the least expensive one). That solution may not be what’s best for your needs.

Take a look at all their features, and also focus on the following things:
  • Industry:

Some services are designed to serve certain industries only. ConvertKit, which was created specifically for publishers is a good example.

  • Ease of Use:

Make sure that you choose a service with a platform that is easy to use and that works with your type of business.

  • Automation:

The service providers each allow you to automate your email campaigns in different ways and to varying degrees. Choose the one whose tools meet your business goals and solve your needs.

  • Pricing:

While this shouldn’t be the only thing you consider, it’s also important that the solution you choose to go with fits your budget.

With that in mind, it’s time to compare the 7 Top Email Marketing Services:

I have already heard how email marketing is very important for affiliates but I never give it great  importance. Although you say it is must for business owners I see some people saying how it is hard to start with email marketing. Most people promote some e-books, can you tell me what can I promote with email marketing if I don’t have any book? From the list above my choice is definitely MailChimp because of starter membership that is for free.

You are very thorough in this post which I really appreciate it because I know how important email marketing can be but had no idea on which one to go with. It can be overwhelming with the different services that are out there but with your description of each one, it made it easier for me to pick one that will work for me.

Thanks for the informative article. I’ve been thinking about building out a email list, but have yet to get into the swing of things to make it happen. Maybe I will soon.

When you would start building your email list? After 100 daily traffic to your site? Or would you start from day 1? Thanks!

    1. Steven

You can start right away. There’s no real reason to wait if building a list will be beneficial to you.

      Thanks for the comment Cyrus!

Good write up and suggestions. I used Aweber and did not have much success. The open rate was horrible as I suspect my emails were going to peoples spam folders. Is there any way to prevent this? Anyway, I guess I’ll have to try one of these other services. Thanks

    1. Steven

Don’t use a general email address like Yahoo or Gmail as your ‘from’ or ‘reply to’  setting with any email service. Always use an address with your website’s domain. So…

      DON’T use:

      yourname@gmail.com

      yourname@yahoo.com

      DO use:

      yourname@yoursite.com

This might be why you had spam folder issues.

Hope this helped and thanks for the comment Lev!

Wow Steven – Thanks!  I’ve been trying to get off the ground with email marketing on an ecommerce site for over a year and can’t seem to get traction, until in walks WA with its training and now your article comparing services!  There’s hope!  I’ve tried using MailChimp but not familiar with the others you reviewed.  I’m also going to check out the two resources you gave the previous commenter and print out your article for further use.

    All the best!

Most email services have some kind of free trial. Try them out, see if you like the way the platform is organized. I found aweber to be fairly simple to get started with.

      Thanks for the comment Sharon!

  7. Christina

Thank you for this great overview of email marketing providers. This is really helpful. I’m someone who is an affiliate marketer. I don’t have an email list yet, but as my traffic grows, I know that that will be an important part of the process. Which service do you think is best for someone like me who’s just getting started?

    1. Steven

I found aweber was pretty easy to learn. There are also more
advanced features you can use later once you are comfortable with the
      platform.

      Thanks for the comment Christina!

  8. Karin Nauber

Thank you for sharing the top 7 email marketing services article. I have used Constant Contact in the past when I worked as a Chamber of Commerce director, but have been looking at email options to enhance my business. This was a nice review of other options, some of which I had never heard of before.

My main use for the email would be to update visitors to changes to my site and to offer a monthly newsletter. Which service would you recommend for that? I have only about 100 on a potential mailing list right now, but am hoping to add to that number.

I also have multiple businesses/blogs and wonder if I would have to have separate accounts for each business?

I have heard of MailChimp. Would you recommend that service for a newsletter service? From your review of it, it sounds like it might meet my needs.

Thank you and I am looking forward to your response!

    1. Steven

MailChimp, aweber or ConstantContact would all work. To keep subscribers separate you could use segregation. Check out this article:

Hope this helps and thanks for the comment Karin!
